History Rikku is a fifteen-year-old kind-hearted, tender and chirpy Al Bhed girl. Her father, Cid, is leader of the Al Bhed. Her mother is deceased and was killed by machina. She also has a brother (inventively named Brother!). She’s Yuna’s cousin, to whom she is thoroughly devoted.
Rikku lived in Spira, amongst numerous other races. She was nurtured on Bikanel Island by her parents, in an area known as “Home.“ This place was inhabited by the Al Bhed, who united together due to being discriminated against by other races as a result of the Spiran religion, Yevon. Rikku was first encountered when Tidus got trapped in the Underwater Ruins. Rikku, alongside a group of Al Bhed, forced their way into the building via bombing a locked door. With a baffled Tidus, she fought an attacking fiend and defeated it. Immediately after their victory, Tidus was seized by the accompanying Al Bhed. They accused him of being a "fiend" and desired to kill him. Rikku objected, but wounded Tidus' stomach, knocking him out.
Tidus awoke on a ship. Rikku fed him and treated him nicely. He discovered, much to his delight, that she was the only member of her group that spoke English. Reluctantly, after much persuasion from Rikku and her much more aggressive Brother, he agreed to help them salvage an underwater ship, which they did successfully. Afterwards, he and Rikku returned to deck. They had a chat about Spira, Al Bhed and Luca. Rikku offered to bring Tidus to Luca, claiming that perhaps he would meet someone who recognises him. Before long, Sin interrupted their conversation and attacked ship. Tidus fell over board, and was separated from Rikku.
Rikku was not encountered again until Tidus, Yuna and her guardians crossed the Moonflow on a large, elephant-like creature known as a Shoopuf. Rikku dragged Yuna overboard with the intention of abducting her and trapped her using machina, which also served as a weapon. Tidus, unaware that Yuna's kidnapper was Rikku, attacked her alongside Wakka. They defeated her and retrieved Yuna, leaving a battered Rikku to drift to the shore...
After arriving on the South Bank, Tidus soon found Rikku lying unconscious on the shore, though he did not recognise her. Grumbling painfully, Rikku awoke and removed her suit, revealing herself. She criticized Tidus for attacking her, but was pleased to see him nevertheless. She offered to become Yuna's guardian, an offer which was gratefully accepted. She was forced to reveal her species to Auron, but he and all others who knew kept this a secret due to Wakka's intense hatred for the Al Bhed.
Rikku followed the group to Guadosalam. In Maester Seymour's mansion, she tucked in on his food and enjoyed the Guado's hospitality. She was shocked and surprised when Seymour, leader of the Guado and a Maester of Yevon, proposed to Yuna. However, she didn't oppose it as strongly as Tidus evidently did. She even encouraged it and told Yuna she could just quit her pilgrimage and get married; an idea Yuna opposed. Rikku refused to go to the Farplane. She disliked the idea of seeing an image of her deceased loved ones and said "Memories are nice, but that's all they are."
The journey continued to the Thunder Plains. Rikku panicked and confessed she greatly feared thunder as a result of a mishap. When she was a small child, Brother accidentally attacked her with a thunder spell when he aimed to attack a water fiend. Her fear was so intense that she clung to Tidus' leg and refused to continue unless she took a break at a Travel Agency. Auron eventually gave in and the group took a small break.
When they finally reached Macalania, Rikku calmed down. At Macalania Lake, Brother launched an attack using a powerful machina. Although it was all part of the plan to capture Yuna and save her, she argued against the attack and fought the machina. After it was defeated, Brother and his Al Bhed crew retreated and threatened to tell Rikku's father. Wakka discovered that Rikku was Al Bhed. Offended and angry that he was in the presence of an Al Bhed, he proceeded to ignore her since then.
She fought Maester Seymour alongside Yuna and her other guardians at Macalania Temple, upon discovering his plans to destroy Spira. They killed him, and made an escape. After a lengthy chase and a few fights, they all became trapped under Macalania Lake. Here, Rikku confessed that she idolized Lulu and admired her calm demeanor. Sin attacked and transported everyone to Bikanel Island. However, Yuna was missing. Rikku took everyone to her Home which, to her utter horror, was under attack by the Guado. Many Al Bhed died during this attack, including some of Rikku's friends.
Rikku took everyone to the Summoner's chamber, but Yuna was no-where to be found. She revealed that the Al Bhed were abducting Summoners to prevent them from performing the Final Summoning and dying. Wakka was humbled by their intentions and rekindled his friendship with Rikku. Rikku revealed to Tidus that if Yuna were to continue her pilgrimage, she would die. Tidus had a massive breakdown. They escaped via the airship she salvaged and alongside Tidus, and Home was destroyed.
In Bevelle, Yuna was forced to marry Seymour and all of her guardians were in a tight situation. Rikku blinded Seymour and his guards using a bomb, enabling everyone to escape to the Bevelle Temple. In the Chamber of the Fayth, they are re-captured and Rikku was thrown into the Via Purifico. Alongside Tidus and Wakka, she escaped. They caught up to Yuna and the remaining guardians and tried to escape. They encountered Seymour in a now unsent form, and defeated him. They hid in Macalania Woods. Rikku encouraged Tidus to persuade Yuna to quit her pilgrimage, though the chat was unsuccessful and they proceeded to the Calm Lands. Here, she tries to devise a plan with Tidus to stop Yuna from dying, though they struggle immensely. In Mount Gagazet, they once again encountered Seymour, defeated him and reached their final destination, Zanarkand. Here she began to panic about Yuna dying. With the other guardians, she fought Yunalesca and defeated her. This meant that Yuna had no Final Aeon to summon. They retreated to the airship and thought long and hard.
Rikku eventually came up with a plan and told Shelinda to sing the Hymn of the Fayth when she hears it. This plan was successful and the Hymn soothed Sin. Using the airship, Yuna and crew entered Sin and defeated all who dwelt, including a final encounter with Seymour, Tidus' father, Jecht and Yu Yevon.
After defeating Sin, Rikku was the only person who maintained her optimism when Tidus bid farewell, claiming that they would surely meet again and that this wasn't truly the end.
Little did she know, she was right.

Personality Rikku is a bouncy, cheerful girl. Although very hyper and chirpy, she is a kind-hearted and sensitive youngster. Being the youngest of Yuna's guardians, she is perceived as naive. However, despite her odd and bouncy behaviour, she is far from stupid and is very insightful on occasion. She wears little clothing, though it doesn't seem to phase her.
As a giddy and fun-loving girl, she more than once has clashed with Yuna's more solemn guardians, whom find her very annoying sometimes. Despite her energy, she looks up to Lulu, admiring her calmness and maturity. Lulu's influence is visible in Final Fantasy X-2, where Rikku styles her hair and braids it similarly to Lulu's.
Innocent and child-like, Rikku is one of those people who tries to find positivity in any situation. She dislikes gloomy people, often referring to them as "big meanies."
Rikku is very emotional and her feelings tend to appear exaggerated. When she is upset, it strongly contrasts her optimistic nature to a striking extent.
Despite her happy-go-lucky attitude, Rikku does have a calm and serious side and shows it when needed (in Zanarkand, for example). She often serves as comfort for Yuna and comical relief. She is fiercely loyal to those she loves.
Rikku is very energetic, warm and kind-hearted towards those she meets. However, if you treat her harshly she will have something to say about it and won’t be afraid to say what she thinks of you. She’s a sensitive girl and will therefore react to nasty comments with anger, sadness and depending on the situation, occasionally amusement.
